Gerry and Sharon
Glad you liked the photos (too many eagle shots). We are still
working on an album or scrapbook from our trip, everything is so spectacular
it's hard to decide what to keep in & what to leave out.
We really had a great time, truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Everyone was
so friendly and helpful we couldn't have asked for a better group of people to
hang out with. Eric is a great guy, you are lucky to have such a good friend.
Aleesa is a terrific young lady, we're sure you are very proud of her. Noelle
and Sharon treated us, and fed us, like we were family, not clients. And best of
all Gerry was a wonderful host, putting us on the fish, teaching us about the
area, showing us the wildlife and sharing stories about his Alaska adventures.
Patty has a few halibut recipes that she will be sending along, that fish is so
good any recipe works. We are having about 40 people over for fish-fry in 2
weeks. That should put a dent in the halibut supply.
Our best to all,
Brian & Patty Smead
Big Fun at Little Eagle
My wife and I spent five days at Little Eagle in early August 2001. We loved everything about it. When hosts Gerry and Sharon say, "Make yourself at home," they mean it. Their warm reception and friendly treatment made us feel like part of the family.
A visit to Little Eagle offers a delicious taste of true Alaska living. The lodge’s huge windows provide a breathtaking view of a river valley and the bay. While enjoying dinner, you can look out to see foxes, otters and maybe even bears chasing salmon in the river.
My mission was fishin’, so we spent a lot of time on the water in pursuit of salmon. While fishing or motoring from one spot to the other, Gerry was constantly pointing out wildlife along the way. We saw a mother bear and her cub, seals and sea lions, deer and a variety of birdlife.
In the evenings, my wife took walks along the beach while I cast for salmon at the river mouth. She would always return with news about seeing eagles and other birds, and she’d show me shells, driftwood or other interesting items she found washed ashore. After hearing my up-to-the-minute fish tales and seeing the salmon I’d caught, she couldn’t resist taking a few casts herself before we’d go in for another of Sharon’s wonderful home-cooked meals.
Enjoying the rugged beauty of Kodiak Island doesn’t mean you must sacrifice all the creature comforts you’ve grown accustomed to: The Lodge is spacious yet cozy, with electricity for refrigeration, lights and a VCR. Of course, should you prefer, you can enjoy pleasant conversation amidst the glorious silence of the great outdoors, knowing that no phones will ring to interrupt the moment.
Whether you’re interested in hunting, fishing, wildlife watching or simply relaxing in the splendid surroundings of remote Kodiak Island, visit Little Eagle. My wife and I love this place, and we’ll definitely keep coming back.
